Dear Friend,

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me. Here goes ....................

My love of fabrics and fashion started when I was about five, I was encouraged by a very craft based community and my mum who was always on her machine experimenting with fabric.

I grew up in beautiful New Zealand and started recycling vintage clothes as a teenager which I would customise or reuse back in the late 80s and sell at street fairs. In the early 90s I immigrated to the UK and went on to study men’s tailoring, ladies outerwear, corsetry and finally a degree in Fashion Design with History of Costume.

Prior to this I sampled various courses such as millinery and silver jewellery techniques.

Before creating jewellery designs I did a bit of (steel boned) corsetry, wedding and formal occasion commissions and have worked at brief intervals for a local costumer when my studies permitted. I started to reuse vintage jewellery within my luxury loungewear collection for my degree show back in 2003 and accessorised by stripping down vintage pearl necklaces and creating bracelets, rings and adorning slippers.

Holly Daise provides an outlet for my need to create (and to keep me sane).

My main influences are film (I love Gothic horror), music (Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Horrorpops, Biff Naked to name a few), nature, past fashions/lifestyle and of course found objects (locally sourced from flea markets and antique fairs) and the materials or objects I am working with at the time. I absolutely adore Victorian morning jewelry, so beautiful and atmospheric!

As my work is handmade and I use vintage materials there will be imperfections or ‘quirks’ incorporated, but like people these are what makes each unique and special. I would like to think that I am creating to some extent Modern Heirlooms for future generations to enjoy.
