About

I have a fantasy of someday owning an old farmhouse property off in the country. Something with "out buildings". I've always wanted to own out buildings, maybe turn one into my studio. My fantasy also involves a big garden, a small orchard, chickens and me in pigtails, a gingham dress, chewing on a wheat stalk.

Then I'd carry in my garden harvest into my oversize farmhouse kitchen. You know, those huge 1940s kitchens where there was room for a breakfast table, and high ceilings allowing for more cabinets than you know what to do with. Maybe I'd do some canning, or maybe bake a pie.

I'd have enough free time to dabble in all manner of "country skills", making everything by hand, from scratch, using hand-powered gadgets. The phrase "You MADE this??" would be frequently heard.

On warm, sunny days (still fantasy land here, I do live in the NW after all) we'd invite our pals over for a gen-u-ine cookout, sipping lemonade with paper straws, eat with mis-matched silverware on a picnic table with a checkered tablecloth. Jam jars of wildflowers and paper lanterns in trees are the perfect finishing touch.

I'm getting carried away so I'll end it here by saying join me! Let's feed our fantasy together. I can help! We may live in the middle of town or in an apartment but by golly there will be some "country" in there. Put on those country-colored glasses and suddenly the shed out back looks like an out building, the landscaping turns from shrubs to berry bushes and there are jars of canned goods cooling on the counter.

It's a very nice fantasy. I like it.
