EVERGREEN by Ian Martzke Visual Artist's Profile

About

I am a young artist living in Grand Rapids Michigan. I am studying for my BFA in Painting and Art Education at Kendall College of Art and Design.

My work features animals, and abstract motifs. I use a limited color palette and a variety of techniques including drawing, painting, and printmaking. I use these techniques to create contrasting flat and volumetric elements within the piece.
I have been a proud resident of Michigan all of my life. Growing up here, I spent a lot of time in nature. This has been an influence on a lot of my recent work.
I have been focussing in on ideas like instinct. And the effects of knowledge specific to human beings on our happiness and satisfaction with life. Simplicity and the ideas of isolation from society are also embraced in my work.

EVERGREEN as a brand makes efforts to be environmentally conscious. As stewards of this world we have a responsibility to be smart with our resources. As an artist who relys on the natural world for my inspiration I feel it's very important to do everything we can to counteract our negative impact on the earth.
