Greetings!

Photography has been my creative passion ever since I received my first Fujica 35mm camera in high school. I attended Brooks Institute of Photographic Arts & Sciences in Santa Barbara, CA, graduating in 1988. Some of my best work is from my travels and experience with Habitat For Humanity International having been their staff photographer in the 90’s.

My love of 35mm black and white photography is evident in the majority of my work. It ultimately kept me from trying digital photography until 2008 thinking it couldn’t possibly be as good as film. I now thoroughly enjoy my Nikon digital camera, taking it everywhere with me to catch those instantaneous moments that can happen anywhere during my day and lighting that can change in a blink of the eye!

Previous to my digital photography, my work was primarily from international travel with Habitat and other non-profit experiences. The past year has been a self directed project to mindfully photograph every day and in doing so seeing my own community for the beauty, diversity, humour, color and opportunities that it presents. I admit that some days end with photographing my cats as the day has flown by and I didn’t stop to see a possible image. Don’t worry though, I won’t bore you with all my cat photographs!!

As I transitioned to an office job to pay the mortgage and bills my photography and creative essence fizzled to nothing. I’m done with that and having this etsy shop is a new beginning that I want to help support my “Never work in an office again” goal.

Black & White is my favorite photographic expression but I’m also experimenting these days with vibrant colors of various textures, selective focus to add depth and intrigue, extreme graininess for the watercolor effect it gives and everything in between.

Although I have lived all over the country, in Liverpool, England and Thailand - my heart belongs to the Pacific Northwest. Originally from Portland, Oregon I now live in Seattle.

I am also a contributor to the April's Army Collective Shop.

Thank you for taking the time to roam around my shop. I hope you enjoy the photographs I’ve posted. If you ever have any questions or just want to say ‘Hey’ - go ahead and convo me.

Cheers,
Julie
