About

“It's You, Jean” is a vintage, re-imagined and re-fashioned online clothing shop, based out of Eugene, Oregon. "It's You, Jean" began in its truest essence in 1997 far from Eugene, with a 1957 Singer machine, a full drawer of brown polyester, and a pretty determined 13-year-old, Claire Jean (that's me). The inspiration? A pair of bright blue, low-rise, wide-leg polyester pants from a teen magazine! After several failed attempts with the machine, I ditched it, and stitched the pants by hand.

My philosophy is that we are already fabulous, unique and beautiful. We are all ready as is. I choose and create clothing to focus more closely on something I find beautiful, whether it be my best friend's long legs or the amazing open back of a 1980's dress.

My philosophy is that we are already fabulous, unique and beautiful. We are all ready as is. I choose and create clothing to focus more closely on something I find beautiful, whether it be my best friend's long legs or the amazing open back of a 1980's dress.

My passion is to celebrate our bodies just exactly as they are - to hone in on that person's favorite part of their figure or personality. To stay with that element of appreciation and wonder.

My process involves expanding from this place into the vast world of experimentation. Many times, my "mistakes" are truly the seed of my best creations.

It is an evolving process of letting things go, and opening to new ideas of what the piece intended itself to be. My hope is that you see your vibrant and amazing self in these vintage finds and creations. That there is a place within "It's You, Jean" that celebrates the essential "you".
