Born in Pueblo, Colorado, Jerry Sullivan was inspired early on by his father, who was also a painter. Interested in pursuing a career in art, Jerry moved to the San Francisco bay area where he attended the California College of Arts and Crafts in the early 1960s. There he studied a wide variety of studios arts. He was particularly inspired by one of his instructors, the famed watercolorist George Post. He later went on to study jewelry design at Southern Colorado State University.

Over the years, Jerry has worked in many creative fields including photography, graphic design, sales management and marketing, web design, and owning and operating a jewelry design firm. Now retired from the corporate world, he has returned to his artistic roots and is happy to have the time to pursue one of his early passions: painting. He primarily focuses on abstract water media. Inspired by the materials themselves, he explores a non-traditional form of watercolor painting, experimenting with different methods of manipulating the inks during and after application to the substrate.
