About

I've been puttzing with fabric for many years now in nearly every way possible..dyeing, painting, splattering, spraying, stenciling, or in any other way abuse it--all in the name of art!

I use anything at hand-craft paint, acrylic artist's paint, house paint, even nail polish(they're acrylic, too...) I often create my own stamps from styrofoam meat trays. I use found objects to use as stamps as well.
(funny story: i took a class at QSDS in Columbus, Ohio on mark-making with found tools and on the drive home--still so highly inspired--thought wow, wouldn't it be neat to try various truck tire treads left along the highway--i bet they would have all sorts of different patterns! So all the way home I watched for the rubber lying along the road and wouldn't you know, there was hardly any? Those that I did see were 1) in the middle of construction so I couldn't pull over 2) on the wrong side of…

Those that I did see were 1) in the middle of construction so I couldn't pull over 2) on the wrong side of the road or 3) I was in the midst of too much traffic.
Finally, I spied a likely black pile and there were no cars and it was on my side of the road so I pulled over, backed up and parked. I walked back to get it and reached down...just as I was about to pick it up, I noticed it had a tail!
Road Kill...... I never did get any truck tire rubber.)

Anyway, to get back to my art, I cut the fabric I make into pieces and sew them to a background to create patterns inspired by man-made structures.

I also create Fiber Mosaiks that are made from commercial fabrics. I cut and arranged the little bits-sometimes 1/2" X 1/4"-now I can't throw ANY scrap away!--into patterns and designs either graphic or realistic. They are fun to do, and I do them because I'm too lazy to make regular broken-china mosaiks. No, not really too lazy, just afraid to start another passion!

I also love to create collages of actual locations. Many of these are done as custom work from your requests, even using your own photographs. I look forward to making them from MY OWN photographs-because that would mean I'm out there traveling, which is my ultimate goal.
