Janet and Lallie's Profile

About

Jalall the name of my shop sounds very exotic - it is a combination of my name Janet and my niece Lallie who takes such an avid interest in all my handiwork - so we are hoping she will carry on the family tradition of being a crafts person like her mother, all aunties and the generations of our ancestors

I live in Melbourne Australia and have been making Bridal Costume Jewelery, Hand Beaded lace head pieces and Tiaras for over 20 years. I inherited my creative obsession with making things from my Grandmother and mother. 3 of the 4 girls in my family also share this passion for creating & making, we immerse ourselves in a variety of crafts.

Most of the beads in my collection from which i make the majority of my pieces were purchased in the 1980's to about 1991 and have been waiting for me to get to them ever since and I am continually adding to my collection.
Some of them were brought from the late Maria George who had a treasure trove going back to the 30's and 40's so vast was her collection.
I also avidly brought from another famous collector in Melbourne Ellie from the Bead Shop in Smith St who has since retired - Miraculously both Maria George & Ellie's stock has been purchased by Maria who continues to sell today from a fabulous shop in the Nicholas Building in Swanston Street, Melbourne.
Often i am not sure exactly how old some of my beads are and I am still buying, there are many I hate to use as I will have to let go of them. What a strange passion/obsession.
Though I can see from Etsy there are many of me out there around the globe which is a lovely thought.
I still get very excited when I am bead shopping (often) I am like a kid in a lolly shop, a feeling I hope I never lose.
Please feel free to contact me with any queries.
