Janine Maves started making art as a child. While growing up in Chicago, she attended the School of the Art Institute’s high school summer programs, and started college at the Chicago Academy of Fine Art. She received a B.A. in studio art and art history from the University of Minnesota. She studied museology in graduate school, but started a family and never finished her dissertation. Maves is addicted to workshops and continuing education in an ongoing challenge to think outside the parallelogram. She is on the teaching staff at Pullen Arts Center in Raleigh, NC.
While spending years in the corporate world, Maves worked as a graphic artist, proofreader, typesetter, and in communications and Web maintenance.
