Jari Eikenaar's Profile

About

I am a self-taught photographer. The single greatest influence on my style of photography was my year and half long apprenticeship with a Japanese bonsai master. In Japan I learned an appreciation for space, balance, and the beauty in the temporary and the imperfect.

I use both film and digital cameras, including a Yashica mat twin lens box camera, folding Polaroid SX-70 Land Cameras, Nikon film and digital slrs, and various toy film cameras.

My favourite lenses are called 'normal' lenses; these are lenses that reproduce a natural perspective of the scene, so they show almost exactly what the eye sees. On 35mm film that means a focal length of 50mm, on a 6x6 box camera it's 80mm.
