Joel Schuman's Profile

About

I've been making furniture for over half a century. I studied with James Krenov and Wendell Castle at the School for American Craftsmen in the 60s and opened my own shop in 1971. A few years later I became interested in computers and spent the next 30 years designing and building custom software for a living and making furniture for fun. In 2002 I quit my software gig to combine furniture and computing, building a CNC router table and starting another woodworking studio. I did custom work, designed a line of production pieces, made some art, and fabricated sculpture and art for other artists. When the economy went south I retired and once again make stuff for my family and friends in my home shop. But that "market" is pretty well saturated and I still wake up every morning itching to make something new.
