Julie Nolan's Profile

About

Julie Nolan started creating jewelry 10 years ago in her studio apartment on the lower east side of Manhattan. Taking inspiration from Jodorowsky films, thrift store paintings, found art and private press records, Julie’s individual sense of style garnered attention immediately. Through word of mouth, Julie’s designs found enthusiastic fans and what began as a hobby soon began to eclipse her day job as a make-up artist. Behind the scenes on photo shoots, stylists began using her pieces in editorials, models began taking pieces home, and what had been a private artistic pursuit soon gained a very public following. Encouraged, Julie began to sell her work, experimenting with new designs and techniques and constantly learning more about her craft. Julie studied metalsmith- ing at Studio Jewelers and worked with designers such as Randi Mates of Aesa Jewelry. Through Julie’s creative vision and the support of loyal customers, Julie Nolan Jewelry has taken on a life of it’s own and is now a full time business and creative adventure.
CONSTELLATION PIECES
In December of 2009 Julie created a collection of constellation jewelry patterned after a 19th century Swiss calendar. The first store to start carrying this line was the iconic Catbird in Brooklyn, NY. Julie Nolan Jewelry is now carried by retail giant Anthropologie, online retailer Un- common Goods, and by specialty boutiques across the US, Canada and the UK. Working primarily in brass, Julie Nolan is currently expanding her collection using semi precious stones and sterling silver.
STUDIO
The first production studio, like many young businesses in New York City, was located in a kitchen. With demand outpacing the capabilities of a small space, in 2012 Julie moved to Easthampton, MA. Expanding the line of production to a loft built in an old New England Rubber factory, Julie, her husband Peter, and a few skilled jewelers now create each piece by hand below the shadow of Mount Tom, in the beautiful Connecticut River Valley.
PRESS
Without ever hiring a press agent or soliciting coverage, Julie Nolan Jewelry has been featured in the Martha Stewart Wedding Holiday Gift Guide, SOMA Magazine, Country Living, and the Today Show.
