About

My name is Karen and I hate tomatoes; however, I love tomato based sauces - it's the fresh tomato that I cannot stand. Sometimes I get William Faulkner's Nobel Prize acceptance speech stuck in my head like a song, but please don't think I'm complaining, it's an amazing speech - simply melodious. I own more instruments than I know how to play. I am an Air Traffic Controller, so don't worry - I'll make sure you get home safely. I'm a pilot, too - flying is my panacea. I live on the side of a mountain in Colorado, I found myself here by way of Anchorage, Alaska, but I was raised in Washington State. The Rocky Mountains are nice and sunny and provide limitless hiking and mountainboarding fun, but sometimes I miss the Puget Sound... I grew up in a boat building family - I was caulking the hull of my grandfather's steam-powered tug when I was four. Saltwater runs through my veins, but my eyes gaze skyward. I'm a dog person - more specifically, I'm a border collie person. I can spin a basketball on just about anything I can hold in my hand - a ring, a water bottle, the spine of a book... I gave up television years ago and I read mainly nonfiction books - anything by Bill Bryson and Tony Horwitz to Carl Sagan and Richard Feynman to Simon Winchester and Latin texts - I'm a complete nerd. I skateboard - well, longboard actually... My favorite artist is Rie Munoz and I could live the rest of my life listening only to Jimmy Buffett. I love pottery; I love jewelry; but, I'm picky about both. Very picky. I enjoy red wine, but not merlot; I am a microbrew beer snob, and I love to surround myself with good people. I can quote Monty Python - all of it. I appreciate the talents of others and I don't say something unless I mean it. I'm learning to accept deciduous trees, but my heart will always be with the conifers - how I long to smell cedar... I feel almost sinful when unable to recycle.

I envy people who make art their life. Having such an analytical and stressful job, I am acutely aware of the lack of art in my world. To those of you of whom I am jealous - enjoy your life! Live your talent. Peace.
