About

I grew up outside a small town in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. I never knew a summer without a garden or a swim in the river. I still can't imagine life without such simple pleasures. For me quilting is one of those. The time honored techniques I use give me a sense of connection to my past.

I've always like to "make stuff." As a child, If I wasn't hand stitching together scraps from my moms fabric stash, then I was in the back yard with my big sister using the fallen black walnuts and a five gallon bucket to make "soup." Don't worry we knew better than to eat it! Those early experiences with the joy of creating, eventually led me to a B.A. in studio art and high school art teaching.

Although I stopped teaching when I had a baby, my desire to make stuff never let up.

Aesthetically I am drawn to a modern cottage style, but also have a love affair with more traditional patterns and colors, and give them a nod every so often. I chose to make baby bedding after having my own tiny person. I have a hard time finding bedding, clothes and shoes I love for her, and can afford. I want classic styles and materials that will stand the test of time. I don't want her to have a collection of trendy items that she outgrows in a couple of years, and can't be used by others. So green tomatoe is where I make beautiful things for tiny people with heirloom quality materials and techniques, so that they can be enjoyed for a lifetime.

I currently live in Albemarle County Virginia with my handsome husband, my free range baby who is growing up way too fast, our dog, and three laying hens.
