Karen Bishop's Profile

About

I was born in Cheltenham, England, in 1968 and moved to Kingston, Ontario, in the winter of 1992. When I first arrived in Canada I was unable to work while I waited for my papers, so I made use of the time by enrolling in some art classes which I enjoyed very much. Soon, however, family life took over and art took a back seat for several years.

In 2002, after a few years juggling painting with parental responsibilities, I graduated from the University of Alberta's Extension centre with a Fine Arts certificate. I decided to continue my studies at the University of Alberta and enrolled in an Arts Degree.

That degree, though unfinished, allowed me the freedom and confidence to pursue my career as an artist and I have been incredibly blessed to find myself in the enviable position of making a living (well, almost!) doing something I love.

As my children get older, I find myself with more time for painting. Since 2007 I have concentrated on landscape painting, mostly in watercolour. In 2010 I have tried something new and have been working with acrylics as well as watercolours and developing a looser, bolder style. I have also enjoyed painting more people and am encouraged by the accolades I have received for my portraits.

I love to paint, and am incredibly lucky to be able to enjoy and share my talents.
