About

Hi! My name is Kat and I am a 27 year old artist living and working in central Indiana. I have been working primarily in colored pencil for over 5 years, and I really enjoy the color mixing possibilities and control I can achieve with them. Lately, I have been using watercolors along with colored pencils, taking advantage of their transparency and speed. I have found a process that works well for me, too. Since I have worked in an art store for over 7 years, I have enjoyed the freedom of trying new materials and sharing techniques with coworkers and customers. I have worked in just about every medium available- oils, acrylics, pastel, paper crafts, wood working, clay, sculpture, textiles, needle felting, etc. One of my favorite things to do is try something new.

Everything I create usually has something to do with nature or science. I am really interested in cosmology and the intersections of religion and science. I feel like my church is Mother Earth and my mass is a quiet night under the stars.
Recently, I started working on a children's book which I am writing and illustrating. It is basically a science fiction fairy tale about a particle of light traveling to earth. So that's what I am working on now, and will be listing some artwork and prints from the design process. The book is sort of Art Nouveau-ish with a Mucha Style flair. Anyway, keep an eye out for those! They will be showing up early 2014.
