Kathleen Buck's Profile

About

My multi-layered work is rooted in the gestural forms of figures, both people and animals. Mood, feeling and universal longing are the subjects of my art rather than literal, physical realism. I strive to capture a moment in time through the use of luminous bright colors, strong light and dark patterns, and texture created by painting with a palette knife.

My watercolor, acrylic and mixed media paintings encourage you, the viewer to share in my explorations. In my images, I try to demonstrate that it is not what you see that counts, but what you sense. It is this probing, intuitive exploration that I use to try to give my art a deeper level of meaning. In the future, I want to continue using moving figures to capture a moment in time, and to explore the essence of invisible forces, such as, wind, speed, music or joy, in the instant they touch the subjects of my paintings.

I use only professional artists' quality pigments and acid-free, 100% cotton watercolor paper.

I have been a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon since 1994. I am active in the Arts Alliance of Yamhill County, which annually sponsors the Art Harvest Studio Tour, in which I have participated since 1997. My work has been accepted into and won awards in numerous juried shows, including the Northwest Watercolor Society Members Show, four Watercolor Society of Oregon shows, Beaverton Showcase, Chehalem Cultural Center, Coos Art Museum, the OSU Forestry Center, and the International Pinot Noir Festival. My work is contained in the collections of the Allison Hotel, Chemeketa Community College, Oregon Health Sciences Hospital, the Jaquith Insurance agency, and numerous private collections worldwide.

Currents Gallery in McMinnville, OR, the Sorella Luna Gallery in Portland, OR, the River Gallery in Independence OR and the Aurora Gallery in Vancouver, WA, currently represent me.
