Welcome to Kavita Kriti!

My name is Kavita Gandhi and I created Kavita Kriti (Creations by Kavita) as an homage to the rich cultural heritage of India. Welcome to Kavita Kriti!

My name is Kavita Gandhi and I created Kavita Kriti (Creations by Kavita) as an homage to the rich cultural heritage of India. Growing up I was amazed by the intricate work done by artisans in hand embroidered fabric, the sophistication of Indian textile prints, the artistry of henna designs. Everywhere I looked I saw colors and patterns - in saris, draperies, cushions, bindis. Indian mythology provided ample examples of alluring designs as well.

Color surrounded me everyday be it in the form of clothes we wore or the festivals we celebrated. I wanted to marry my love of color with the Indian designs I was so inspired by in order to create a unique work of art that would portray the vibrance of India.

I started by listing all the styles of Indian embroidery, textiles and other general trends I wanted to compliment and chose my canvas - a silk scarf. I am a self-taught silk painter. All the designs that you see in my shop have been learnt and produced through trial and error and some whimsical experimentation.

My hope is that you will appreciate these one-of-a-kind scarves as much as I do. Some people think in terms of words or pictures, I think in terms of color. My goal with these designs is to creatively infuse my lifelong passion for color into each scarf so that others can benefit from some color in their life and learn a little bit more about the fascinating traditions of India along the way.

Each scarf is packaged with a how-to-guide, ideas for tying the scarf in several different ways; scarf care instructions and a short note describing my inspiration sources in the form of hang tags - my small step in promoting the arts.
