About

Hi All,

My name is Lisa and I've have been sewing for 35 years. I have formal training with heirloom sewing, hand embroidery and have taught classes in English smocking. Along with the formalities, I also enjoy the fun and quirkiness of making one-of-a-kind purses, jewelry, clothing, accessories and putting my own personal spin on them.

Unfortunately, as large a part of my life as my passion for sewing is, I suffer from a health condition called "interstitial cystitis of the bladder" that's been trying for 20 years to take over. It is chronic, painful and there is no 100% effective treatment and there is no cure. The proceeds from the sales of my creations here will help with my many medical and prescription drug expenses. About

(For more information see: www.ichelp.org ). I tend to use many unusual things in my work, that includes pictures of the inside of my bladder taken during surgery. They are often hidden somewhere. You might think this is weird. All I can say is my bladder pain defines my life. It is what decides if I am happy or sad; if I can sleep at night; how well I can get along with my spouse; whether I enjoy my vacation; how well my work day goes; how many bathrooms I visit; how much medicine I have to take; if I can even leave the house at all. It might make you uncomfortable but there is no other way to put it and I can't ignore it or hide it. Through all of this, I work full time as a nurse.

As things move along, I'll expand the scope of what I offer here and I'll also eventually offer some clothing that involves new and creative uses of my heirloom sewing and English smocking techniques. These seem to be dying art forms that I feel still have a lot of life left in them. Let's keep it fun right now, though...For my first foray into the world of Etsy.com, I'm starting with a line of purses, jewelry, accessories using neckties, recycled stuff, other fabrics and unique materials.

I'm setting up this little cottage business in memory of my late father, Kermit. I inherited his crazy tie collection, some of which were handmade by myself when I was a young girl just learning to sew. (I will also consider making custom purses from the neckties of your loved ones.) My dad always encouraged me in my more artistic endeavors and I hope to keep his humorous and adventurous spirit alive with everything that I make.

I am adding some things to the shop that I have made in collaboration with fellow artist, Marla E. Look for some unique bags, jewelry and other accessories.
