KIRK MCGUIRE BRONZE SCULPTURE

"I was born an artist, and from a young age, I amazed my teachers and friends with my 'born skills' for drawing, or sculpting ceramic animals, and nature scenes. Soon after finishing high school, I expanded my creative sculpting talents into learning the fine art of bronze sculpting/casting. In 1984 I began a nine year apprenticeship at the Monterey Sculpture Center where I learned and perfected my technique, ultimately becoming a master sculptor and mold maker, specializing in bronze.

Now over 32 years later, I have created and sold more than 1,500 unique bronze sculptures, which have been collected and displayed around the world. My work has been sold to high-end art galleries, from the USA to Singapore.

My bronzes have been featured in magazines like GQ to name just a few, and on television, even commissioned by the Malaysian Princess of Johor Bahru. I have received kudos from the world's top Scientific Doctors/explorers of giants squid. I was invited by Italian car maker Maserati to give an "Inspiration & Design" speech." My giant squid was featured at The Explorers Club Dinner in New York's Waldorf Astoria with Triton Submarines LLC. Triton Submarines LLC has become his latest collector. Triton filmed a giant squid from a Triton sub for the first time in History and this amazing film was shown as a Discovery Channel feature title "Curiosity".

BIO UPDATE

Now, matching his skills as a veteran bronze sculpture with his love of the ocean, nature and wildlife Kirk has chosen to focus on home décor and design functional sculpture as well. Through thoughtful design combined with his exquisite sculpting technique, Kirk is able to make each of his pieces appear as light as air, and each piece uniquely captures a sense of movement rarely seen in sculpting. It’s through years of careful observation, insatiable curiosity, and a near photographic memory that helps Kirk create each sculpture.

While he has accumulated stacks of books and photographs as reference materials, Kirk is generally able to illustrate and later create in intricate detail from his observations and memory alone. He’s incredibly talented and it shows in each piece he creates. Capturing the intricate detail of each creature, creating the sense of movement, and making heavy stationary objects appear lighter than air are all signature traits of Kirk’s work that can be found nowhere else.

After some travel around the world, Kirk has now settled in San Francisco, where he is creating a completely new collection of bronze sculpture. All of his work is either one-of-a-kind commissions or created as a limited edition. While Kirk’s work has been sold almost exclusively through galleries in the past, he’s now offering his work only directly to his collectors from his website, Etsy.com, or various other places online and abroad. Kirk continues to sell his existing line, or do commissioned work around the world.

"I have always used my imagination, and hands in a way that harmonized with my obsession with nature."

"I hope through my sculpture to bring an awareness of the land and sea around us and to the animals that live here. Every living thing has beauty and I try to show this. Please respect our planet, respect mother earth."
