There is something infinitely appealing about small objects. I can't get over the tactile quality of certain possessions of mine. The Oxford World Classics Edition of "Lord Jim" (by Joseph Conrad) is the perfect size and shape for holding, small yet sturdy. The little giraffe-shaped birthday candle holder I bought in Montana fits right in the palm of my hand. I keep the zines and poetry chapbooks my friends put out on my nightstand.
I find a lot of comfort in the tangibles. Little treasures find their way into my pockets everywhere I go. My goal as an artist is to create things that give other people that sort of comfort and happiness. I still enjoy working in traditional forms on canvas, but I get the most pleasure out of creating small art objects and books that can tag along on peoples adventures, whether on their body or in their pocket.
