Rebecca's Profile

About

I'm a simple, nature girl at heart, preferring to be in the woods and out amongst the birdsong rather than in city traffic or large crowds. I am fortunate and blessed enough to live in a rural area, surrounded by mountains and woods, and it is this natural world that influences my work. You will find birds, mountains, fields, rivers, woods, wildlife, and nature imagery in my paintings, as well as seasonal colors, earthy textures, and even natural materials at times. Given my awareness of the environment, I try to live as simply as possible, and I can go for many days without getting in my car. I do not own a cell phone (yes, it's true!) and am quite content to let our landline ring while I am painting, singing, or tending to my small flock of hens and our pack of dogs.

There are two things I love about art - discovering the soul of my subject as I bring it to a new and different life…

There are two things I love about art - discovering the soul of my subject as I bring it to a new and different life on canvas or paper, and the element of surprise - sometimes you just don't know what will emerge and what you'll discover. Each of my paintings is original and one of a kind, professionally created on quality canvas or paper with professional paints.

Because animals and our environment is so important to me, a portion of the sales I make is donated to one of several animal charities that I support. These include Red Wolf Coalition, Project Coyote, Full Moon Farm, Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge, The Whiskers Syndicate, the Audubon Society, and local fostering groups and Humane Society. I have visited some of these and researched others and I feel strongly about the wonderful work they do for our wildlife, farm animals, and domesticated pets.

I enjoy walking in the woods and hiking around the nearby mountains with my dogs and my husband, a fabulous custom knifemaker. I often carry my camera with me to capture shots that I may later paint or list for sale. The smell and sounds of the woods and the mountain... well, there's just nothing like it for me.

I also enjoy gardening, and I love the spring and summer for their wonderful colors of flowers, vegetables, grass, trees, and of course the sunshine and warm rains. There's something special about going out to the garden to pick and gather what you need for your evening meal!

While I am mostly an introvert, I find that being with others can be fulfilling at times. So something else that keeps me busy is volunteer work that I do in my community. I help out from time to time with our local arts council to hang shows or work in the gift shop, and I also go on occasion to a local nursing home where I sing with and for the residents as well as just visit and offer an ear and a hand. Volunteering in my small community makes me feel a part of something beyond myself and it brings a sense of wholeness.
