Knitgrrl Studio is the fiber workshop, online shop and retail space of designer and author Shannon Okey, who has written more than a dozen major-publisher knitting and crafts books, including Knitgrrl, Knitgrrl 2, Spin to Knit, Felt Frenzy, AlterNation, Alt Fiber, The Pillow Book and more. She then opened her own publishing company, Cooperative Press, which published The Knitgrrl Guide to Professional Knitwear Design, a business-oriented book for fiber arts and other creative professionals.

She began selling online in 2003 as the proprietor of anezka handmade, among the first multi-artisan shopping sites (think proto-Etsy!), and later opened her first brick and mortar store in 2007.
