Most of all I like to knit shawls because they were known for a long time. What enthral all public, is the extraordinary softness of the cloth, alloyed with an exceptional delicacy given by the mountain goat’s down with which I make them.
I knit the traditional Orenburg Shawls. This type of finely knit, down-hair lace shawl originated in the Orenburg area (a famous region in Russia) about 250 years ago, in 18th century. The down hair of Orenburg goats is the finest in the world – 16-18 micrometer, and that of Angora goats (mohair) is 22-24 micrometer and was valuated higher than cashmere.
