Leslie Speicher's Profile

About

Leslie Speicher’s greatest passion is making her mixed media artwork and sharing it with others. The materials and processes she is drawn to include glass, metal, mixed media sculpture and installation, photography, painting and drawing.

Leslie had an early interest in making things with her hands. She was always building things out of clay and found objects while exploring color, form and light. She had the good fortune of having an excellent art education in high school where her teachers encouraged her to pursue her love of art in college and beyond.

After receiving her BFA from Alfred University in 1992 she travelled the country finally choosing Seattle, WA as her home. During her seven years there she focused on her glasswork, teaching at Pratt Fine Arts Center and assisting and studying with local and international glass artists. She then decided to return to school at the University of Illinois where she received her MFA in 2004. Leslie then traveled to Miami, FL where she had her first teaching job as a Lecturer in 3D design at the University of Miami. She then taught at the Cleveland Institute of Art as an Adjunct in the Glass Department before moving to Chicago, IL after her solo show at the Museum of Surgical Science in 2006.

No matter what she is making her aspiration is to create pieces with unique character, which are thought provoking and visually pleasing. Leslie’s interest in exploring materials leads her to create narratives between design, texture, form and color. Every piece is one-of-a-kind, designed and handcrafted by the artist.

Leslie is currently the Head of the Glass Department at Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago, IL where she also teaches and makes her work. Leslie has exhibited her work nationally in galleries, museums and art centers and is currently selling her work to individuals, at art shows, in galleries and on e-sites.
