I am a self taught leather smith. I live in New York City with my husband and baby boy. All of us work together to make Luscious Leather happen. In 1999 I started making cards then hand made books and eventually moved to bags and belts. I have a studio where I sew each piece by hand. I hand cut and hand punch and hand stitch everything. And I mean everything. Stitching one stitch at a time, with no shortcuts. Our philosophy is to sew everything twice and when necessary use double thread. So most of our products have four threads in each hole. I do that because I believe in making something well and durable, because what you make speaks for you and who you are. And what stays behind is your art and your craft and that's what people will remember. And most importantly it feels good to make something well.
When you buy an item from us you are guaranteed quality, durability, uniqueness and care. Our bags also have a small carbon foot print so they do not further damage the environment. We recycle leather, use farm leather when we can, re-purpose as much as possible, use no machines to punch or cut or sew. All done with human hands. We also use no patterns guaranteeing a truly one of a kind piece every single time.
We make what we design and we design what we make. If any item you buy from us has any issue with it due to wear and tear we will repair it for free forever no questions asked. Thank you, for stopping and looking please read our story below.

My Story
I love leather I love how it feels in my hand, how the thread goes through the needle how the needle goes through the leather. My first work relationship with leather started in 1998 when I bought a 20 dollar box worth of scraps from a flea market in the upper west side and made miniature outfits, bags and boots and glued and sewed them onto cards. It gave me the confidence to make my own wedding invitations. My elation at my new found art caused me to quit my job as a school director. From the cards I went unto journals then designing bags and belts. After a period of designing, manufacturing over seas, importing I started making my bags one by one in New York city.
My infatuation started with my first real leather belt that I bought at a Craft show at N.Y.U. The belt was made to order and as the man hammered the leather onto his wooden board it formed a rhythm that resonated through the leaves and trees this rhythm of creation turned into an echo inside of me. I wore the belt every day for 10 years, feeling the echo.
My first pair of real leather shoes I took with me when I moved to China. I wore them every day depth of winter and the heat of summer, they felt better the more you wore them. They were one of the few things that made it back.
Both the belt and shoes are gone, stolen out of my car in a parking garage near Columbus circle, but the way they felt stays with me. Strong, and everlasting.
The first time I cut and sewed leather, all of these memories came rushing forth and my journey made sense. I have no training in leather, just 11 years of my connection leather and how it makes me feel. How you can create a functional three dimensional piece with pockets and flaps and closures and zippers with secret compartments out of something flat and languid.
