Melanie Dooley's Profile

About

I love the scent of violets, a comfy bed, a warm day and driving through a eucalypt forest just after the rain. I am inspired by things with whispers of the past, still alive in the present.

When I was a little girl I spent a lot of time with my father attending antique auctions and markets, digging in old settlements for porcelain fragments and old bottles. I used to spend a lot of time lurking in museums, I studied archaeology as a teenager, collected old things and dreamed of traveling back in time. I always wanted to work in a museum, instead I opted to live in one....sort of.

I'm a full time marketing & communications manager for an exciting technolgy company. For fun after hours I like to create: books, jewelry, artwork, digital art, t-shirt designs, graphic art, photographs.

I open the boxes other people pass by, I walk into shops other people don't even notice. It's about a love of old things, the sentimentality of the past, and a desire to bring things loved long ago into the present.

Most of my items come from France or England and most are antique, some as old as 350 years! History is so inspiring in this world of re-runs and repeats and doing things already done before. I like a more artisan approach, not mass market - original, made with care and love and for a purpose other than to make a buck.

I also sell my own hand made jewelry here on Etsy at Atelier de Talaru - http://www.etsy.com/shop/ateliertalaru
