Sue Harold's Profile

About

My passion has always been fashion and textiles. My earliest memory is when my Grandmother said her final farewell to me and gave me her sewing box to treasure. Since then I have never wanted to do anything else. I love working in silk and have specialised in this. When I work with silk charmeuse it feels like working with melted chocolate – absolutely divine! I’m something of a magpie always collecting and seeking out fabulous textures, fabrics, vintage items – anything that catches my eye, sparkles or intrigues me. These often inspire the final outcome like my boutique range of clothing.

My Art and Textiles background has given me the confidence to be experimental with materials of all kinds including metals, beads, and feathers and designing and creating wonderful headresses and accessories to accompany my bridal gowns makes me so happy!

My greatest ambition from an early age was to go into the world of Fashion Design however, my parents were not keen on allowing me to go off to Art College and so I went along the teaching route and taught Art and Fashion for many years whilst feeding my passion for design by working freelance and selling my silk christening gowns and range of ‘Kiddi Togs’ for many years, until I finally left teaching to follow my dream...

People sometimes ask me how I manage it, where do I find the patience, the inspiration, the skill and how do I cope with the sometimes solitary nature of my work? My answer to this is - I have the best job in the world! Creating stunning and exquisitely crafted garments and adornments that often take my breath away when I finally stand back and take a look. I often ask myself, ‘did I really create that beautiful treasure?’ – I feel the same way when I look at my children!

I never want to do anything else! ♥
