Alex and Lisa LaPella's Profile

About

Alex and Lisa LaPella are potters who believe that art and beauty should infiltrate the everyday. We believe there is an honor in owning a work of art created by another. We believe when you are able to touch the art of another human being, you are in fact touching a piece of their soul. If the artwork is something that you can use, something that can sneak into your everyday experience, you will feel the love, creativity, and talent of the maker every time you use it.

Alex LaPella has combined his love of African drumming and his love of ceramics by creating handmade ceramic hand drums. His drums are wheel thrown, assembled, glazed and fired in our studio. Then Alex fabricates the steel rings used to keep the drum head in place. Alex's drum heads are tunable and replaceable and are never glued on, insuring that they sound great in any environment…

Alex's drum heads are tunable and replaceable and are never glued on, insuring that they sound great in any environment.

Lisa LaPella has a love of functional ceramics. While the occasional art piece does emerge, Lisa is more concerned with the beauty that inserts itself into the lives of the users.

Almost every piece that emerges from our studio is a collaborative work. We work in tandem with each other, each giving input, suggestions, and laying hands on each other's work. We have worked together for so long that we understand the direction our work needs to take and we help each other to get there.

SHOP POLICIES

We want our customers to be happy with their purchases. If you are unsatisfied, please contact us right away. Refunds will be made upon the return of an item. Refunds will be in the amount of the price of the item. We will not refund shipping costs.

Items over $20 are shipped with Signature Confirmation or through FedEx. Items over $50 will always be shipped insurance. If breakage occurs, the policies of the USPS and FedEx required that you, the receiver, make any claims. We know this is a tedious process, but their policies prevent us from taking care of that for you.

Our ceramics are very carefully packaged. We re-use and recycle packaging materials where ever possible. If you are concerned for the environment, too, you may take your packaging materials to the nearest independent mailing center. They are happy to reuse bubble wrap and styrofoam peanuts and they will even recycle your cardboard for you!

We pack our boxes so that they can be dropped from the back of a truck and still remain whole. Often, the boxes appear "too large" for the item you are expecting. This is to insure that the risk of breakage is extremely low. We have been shipping ceramics for nearly 15 years and we can still count the breakage incidents on one hand.

If there are unanswered questions about us or our policies, please feel free to contact us.
