About

I first started doing beading almost 20 years ago, when I was in high school, and fell in love with the variety of beads and the sheer number of design possibilities. My mother was very supportive, and together we opened Sundog Creations. Of course, time passed, and I went to college, then art school and finally law school, while my mother changed the name of our little jewelry business and began focusing on silver work. (She will be joining Etsy soon . . . keep an eye out for Silver Kingfisher).

I found myself longing to do something creative, and when I went to a gem show to look for an engagement ring, I fell in love with beads all over again.

There is so much more available now than there was 20 years ago! I bought some beads and took them home, and quickly discovered that although I had forgotten how to knot beads, my hands remembered. After a few hours, it was like I had never stopped, and so Laughing Shadows Bead & Design was born.

Beading is a hobby for me, a way to relax and be creative. But I decided to start selling on Etsy to pay for my bead habit, and to share my work with others. Every piece I make is unique, inspired by the materials I use and whatever bubbles up from my subconscious. However, not everything I make is suitable for me to wear . . . and I can wear only one necklace at a time!

I have a second Etsy account as ForDappledThings.
