Laura Potter's Profile
Hi, I’m Laura, I make ceramic buttons and jewellery at my home studio in Suffolk UK. I trained in ceramics while studying for a Fine Art BA in Canterbury.
I like quirky, fun and colourful things, I don’t make much the same, and I am always trying out new ideas. My buttons are popular with people who crochet and knit. People also buy them to customise their coats, bags or knitwear.
I use various clays and I normally fire them to earthenware temperatures at around 1000C; I like the bright colours I can get at these temperatures. All my work is fired twice, to mature the clay and fix the glaze. The glazes are hand painted onto the smaller items, some taking 3 coats, which is the most time consuming part of my process. I love explaining to people about my work and how I make it, so please ask if you are curious, it will make my day :)…
