Leafpeople's Profile

About

I was born smack in the middle of the 1950s to a mother who was not your average June Cleaver. Every morning she would sit with us for hours at the kitchen table and we would make things. During our trips to the fabric store, I learned to tell 100% cotton, wool and silk by the touch, and I still drive mom nuts when I pinch a piece of fabric between my fingers and declare “this is not all cotton!” The oldest of four, I inherited all of her genes that make it impossible to not make things.

My passion for art is only equaled by my passion for reading, so it makes sense that I ended up majoring in Illustration at Massachusetts College of Art. I graduated with a BFA in 1977 and have made my living for the past 35 years working full-time as an Art Director in the corporate world.

I’ve come full-circle and am getting back to my roots. I love the brain-to-hand-to-paper, (or fabric) connection that just isn’t quite the same when you stick a beeping computer between your brain and the final creation. Inspiration for my dog friends came from my so sweet Australian Shepherd, Annie, aka Annie-Banannie and Angel/Devil-dog. Although she has sadly passed on, the work she has inspired has brought many fabulous dog lovers into my life.

My preferred method of communication is still to make something, put it in front of the person, and say “See what I made, what do you think?” This one little line has opened many doors and introduced me to so many wonderful people. I hope I’ll meet you, too!
