About

I refashion to reduce my dependence on foreign imports, and to reduce my effect on the soil condition, water supply and air quality. I do it to save resources like money and textiles. By making my own clothing I ensure that no slave labor was involved in the production of them, and so I can fairly set the price of the product based on current market standards. I make my own clothing because there is something powerful in having a connection to my belongings beyond the fact of my having purchased them. Something of myself is in the garment I have made—my creative energy, time, labor—and in America’s consumerist culture that element of connection has been long forgotten. Ghandi suggested that the best way to rebuild an economy is for small communities to supply their basic needs with products created in by that community. By using previously worn clothing as my medium I am reminded that I am just one person in a community; by giving it new and updated life I close the loop of human consumption and reestablish a state of interrelatedness. Enjoy and appreciate the treasures you find here, for they were truly made with love.
