I Like to recycle and I have kept busy doing just that for over 20 years! I teach kids to make art from recycled materials and to live a sustainable lifestyle in my day job at patchwork Central (see www.patchwork.org for more info).

Local artist Jane Case Vickers has a house stuffed with treasure. 1930s Fiestaware, 1950s aluminum pitchers, and lots of her own art made from found objects: lamps with cake tin shades, earrings punched from soda cans. But lately her Arts and Crafts era home has been invaded.

Monsters. They eat her candy stash. They sing in her shower. Some are cute, and some are diabolically clever. But in a house already full of vintage artifacts there is simply no room for these creative critters. So Jane starting putting them in her Etsy shop hoping someone…

Monsters. They eat her candy stash. They sing in her shower. Some are cute, and some are diabolically clever. But in a house already full of vintage artifacts there is simply no room for these creative critters. So Jane starting putting them in her Etsy shop hoping someone would adopt them. News4U sat down with a few of these mischief makers to get their opinion on this eviction.

Cricky The Cupcake Thief: Kate...you look FABULOUS! Have you lost weight?

Kate: Yes...actually, I gave up cupcakes so I don’t have any for you, you naughty boy. Now lets get down to business...What happened?

Fawkes the Trickster: Well, it all boils down to a space issue. We like sleeping in the cupboard but it crowds the vintage glassware. We mutually decided it would be best to make other living arrangements.

Fizzle-Puff the Worrier: Mutual, you say? *sneezes* Excuse me, I just can’t shake this cold. I like living there. I found a very cozy spot on the victorian sofa.

Cricky the Cupcake Thief: I’ll miss Jane’s mother. That woman does wonders with bacon grease and a cast iron skillet. Not enough cupcakes to suit me, though.

Fawkes the Trickster: Yes, but she can’t take a joke! She strongly objected to me hiding her spatulas.

Kate: Fizzle-Puff, can you speak for your siblings? What do Finkle and Twinkle think?

Fizzle-Puff: I don’t think those two know the meaning of the words “plan ahead.” *sighs and shakes head* They are completely unconcerned.

Fawkes the Trickster: There is one thing we can all agree on...we just want to find a person who will understand us. I’ve been called irresponsible, but I just like having a good time!

*Cricky & Finkle nod in agreement*

Jane’s Lil Monsters are made of recycled wool, fleece and felt. They can purchased at her Esty Shop, LostandFoundObjects2. 10% of proceeds go to support programs at Patchwork Central, home of “Monster Week”, June 9th -12th from 1:30-4:30. Children ages 10 and up can create their own monsters as well as put personal touches on a big monster created by the group. Cost is $5.

Jane will also have her work on display in the show “Reuse Reclaim Reimagine” at the Artifacts Gallery in Indianapolis May 9 - June 22. The show will feature other nationally known artists who incorporate recycling into their pieces.

I am so excited! My work was featured on a great blog!http://ourgreatgreenglobe.wordpress.com/2008/02/09/lost-and-found-objects2/
if you want to see it.

More items can also be seen in my flickr - www.flickr.com/gp/21255859@N08/U4EUB9

I sew dolls from found stuff and make collage from my own handmade paper and found objects. I get a charge out of using things overlooked and under appreciated by others. I have been working with recycled materials for over 20 years, at first because i had no money and then later (even though i still have no money) because that is all that interests me. I think i like the extra challenge of working with what is available and i congratulate myself on finding uses for things normally thrown away.

I get really excited about finding a resource that is abundant! and figuring out a good way to reuse it. I have been collecting bits of this and that, old junk drawer kind of stuff, broken things, shiny things, stuff I find on the street while walking. There is nothing like the patina of a partially rusted, partially shiny smashed bottle cap or piece of metal - run over by cars with the pavement texture ground into it. Yeah!! <:0)

The metal from soda pop cans are my current passion. All my items are well washed and sealed if need be:) Old knitted scarves and sweaters to make stuffed monsters is keeping my hands busy too.

I studied Art at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, IL where I received a MFA in Fibers and Art History. For over a decade I have directed an arts program at Patchwork Central in inner city Evansville, IN. I enjoy making art with the children from the neighborhood, who often bring me cool items they find themselves in walking through our city’s streets. I like to feel I am helping to create a new generation of redeemers who will look at life in new creative ways. 10% of the proceeds form my shop goes to support free art programs for inner city kids at Patchwork Central. See www.patchwork.org for more information.

I also have the fun of working with a women's craft cooperative in Honduras, Central America. These ladies make jewelry and hand made paper and products. I usually get to visit in August when my after school and summer programs are on break in Indiana.

thank you for your inquiry about my items. Here at etsy there is such a great group of artists, we have learned to trim our prices to bare bones in order to compete. there are sooo many great etsy artists. If you are interested in buying bulk, i would be glad to come down a bit in pricing.

i have both handmade plush monsters from recycled materials and jewelry listed in 2 shops. LilMonsters.etsy.com and LostAndFoundObjects2.etsy.com
It is easier for me to wholesale my jewelry items, as I keep a bigger stock pile in my small storage space. the monsters take up more room.

I do wholesale both types of items. My monsters are one of kind items that can be purchased at a reduction of 20% for 3-5, 25% for 5-8, 30% for 9-11 and 35% for 12 or more. My Jewelry is wholesaled similarly and much more readily at 6 - 10 pairs at 20 %. 11-15 pair 25% , 16 or more pair 35%.

Retailer pays shipping and insurance.
