I am a full time elementary school teacher, but I have found calmness and relaxation when working with glass. I inherited all of my glass making tool several years ago, and I have been creating sun catchers with love and care since then!
The first step in making sun catchers is to choose a pattern and the colors and textures of the glass that will highlight the parts of the pattern. I then glue the pattern to the glass and cut the glass. Since the cutting of the glass isn't quite as easy as using scissors, each piece of glass needs to be put on the grinder to make it smooth and match exactly to the pattern. The third step, and I get to sit down for this part, is wrapping each piece in copper foil. The copper is what the solder will stick to. Finally, all the pieces are laid together and soldered together. Rings and chains are added and the sun catcher is ready to hang in your window!
