About

"ALCHEMY" (artist statement)

I do not remember when it started,
my fascination with shapes and pattern.
I do recall the desire
to uncover the beauty of color
and the seduction of marking.

First tools were vague, strange, and unknown to others:
The odd tjanting, hot wax, fluid watercolor,
fragile ricepaper, all melding
unforgiving, vulnerable, was the process.

Control was not the way. Learning to relax, to breathe.
Pay attention! Let go... Pay attention! Let go...
as in the lessons of life and the practice of art.

About

"ALCHEMY" (artist statement)

I do not remember when it started,
my fascination with shapes and pattern.
I do recall the desire
to uncover the beauty of color
and the seduction of marking.

First tools were vague, strange, and unknown to others:
The odd tjanting, hot wax, fluid watercolor,
fragile ricepaper, all melding
unforgiving, vulnerable, was the process.

Control was not the way. Learning to relax, to breathe.
Pay attention! Let go... Pay attention! Let go...
as in the lessons of life and the practice of art.
Then color flowed and moved through the line,
until the image is done.

Between thin lines and deepened hues paintings emerged,
synthesized from intuition and memory,
revealing the world unfolding from imagination,
bearing familiar dichotomies,
dualities of positive and negative,
dissonance and joy, despair and commitment,
fragmentation and wholeness.

And when it was time to look
and to really see
that which has been transformed,
there are worlds within worlds
within worlds to behold.

In that golden instant
my secrets dissolve, dualities disappear,
and life vibrates before me in Oneness.

The viewer is now presented with the puzzle,
to be touched, to be inspired,
encouraged and awakened
to one's own creativity within.
