I am a relief printmaker and I primarily do woodcuts. I love the whole process of relief printmaking from doing a drawing, transferring it to a block of wood, and then carving it with my Japanese woodblock carving tools. Printing is where the transformation happens. It's always different from the drawing and has a life of its own.
I majored in Art in college and did lithography there. The only relief printing I had ever done was in grade school doing linoleum blocks! I rediscovered printmaking a few years ago after having spent a number of years oil painting. There's something about the wood, paper, and ink that grabs my imagination and it's all I want to do!
