Lydia Crook's Profile
I originally trained as a paper engineer (that is a pop-up book designer with a swish name!) but I have since expanded my passion for paper by creating ornate paper cuttings and limited edition prints.
From my little studio, nestled on a farm just outside Lewes in England – I sketch, then carefully hand cut and sometimes paint my designs to create delicate and individual pieces of art. I translate some of these designs into silhouettes, which are then stamped onto paper using the traditional letterpress printing technique to create my limited edition print collection.
My current cuttings and prints are inspired by the innocence of childhood rhymes, fairytale stories, classic song lyrics and lovey-dovey romantic quotes. By using a combination of words, images, bold colours and intricate details, I try and give each rhyme or quote its own unique character.
