About

Everything you see in my shop is designed and made by me pushing fabric and leather through my new Juki sewing machine. I still lean on my almost forty year old Viking sewing machine, too. I love color and texture, fabric and leather and believe that the useful things we touch every day should be beautiful. I work mostly with small quantity sample and remnant fabrics and leather which helps keep costs down, and each item unique. Many products are designed around the limitations of the material. Small or oddly shaped pieces of beautiful leather or fabric provide challenges that keep my projects interesting every day, and that is so much fun! My bags are one of a kind, and while I may be able to make something similar to another piece, will seldom be able to replicate.

Handmade balances the technical, machine made, and mass produced products that fill our world. Many of those things are beautiful and functional, but seeing the hand of the maker in a product reminds us that behind it all, is a real person who gets up in the morning and makes something because they like to make things. You will see my hand in my products. I love perfection, but human hands will bobble now and then, and leather, particularly, is not very forgiving. I will always tell you if there is a particularly obvious "bobble" in a piece I’ve made.

I live in one of the most beautiful areas of the country and the rich vegetation, intense colors and lines of our landscape, and gloriously changing water views of Puget Sound inspire me. I have a large family and friends who also inspire me to find new and useful products to serve them. Life is good!

If you like the beautiful ultrasuede labels in my bags and purses, please check out Roberto Sand's Etsy shop ( www.etsy.com/shop/RobertoSand?ref=search_shop_redirect) to see his excellent products. (Thanks, Rob!)
