Hi! My name is Felicia, and I am the potter and sculptor behind Maid of Clay Ceramics. I create hand sculpted creatures with extra personality and wheel thrown pottery in stoneware and porcelain. You can view samples of my work at maidofclay.com (you'll have to type this in your browser as Etsy only has direct links within Etsy). I do everything from the idea, the execution of the idea, the photography, the listing, the packing and the shipping until it arrives safely in your hands. If it seems like the wait time is a bit…

You can view samples of my work at maidofclay.com (you'll have to type this in your browser as Etsy only has direct links within Etsy). I do everything from the idea, the execution of the idea, the photography, the listing, the packing and the shipping until it arrives safely in your hands. If it seems like the wait time is a bit long it is because I am a one-person studio. I have no extra help and do everything from wedging the clay up for throwing to packing the vase once it's out of the kiln. The only help I have is from my husband who prints the labels and takes the packages to the Post Office.

I love all art mediums, but for the last 15 years I've been consumed by the art and craft of clay. I succumbed to what I’ve termed the “Call of the Wheel” in the Spring of 2000 when I discovered the frustrating, yet strangely meditative joy of throwing a pot. Throwing clay soon took a backseat to sculpting clay when I began shaping small forms to add to my thrown pieces. I work with high fire stoneware clay and porcelain and construct my sculptural pieces through a combination of hand building techniques. I am equally happy making both whimsical, silly pieces and more sophisticated art pottery.

I don’t know how many people are interested in the technical aspects of clay, but, just in case…I bisque my greenware at cone 04 (approximately 1,970 degrees) and fire to cone 5 which is approximately 2,200 degrees for my glazed pieces. All the glazes I use for functional ware are commercial glazes manufactured by Laguna Clay Company and verified foodsafe. Sometimes I will do a third firing for either decals, luster painting or china painting.

Thank you so much for taking time to visit my store and I hope you find something you like. I have a very sad, neglected vintage Etsy shop called EyeFind.etsy.com One day I'll fill it up with all the great finds I get at the flea markets.

Here’s the fine print:

SHIPPING
I will be shipping to the address listed on the Etsy invoice so please make sure that that address is correct. Otherwise, please notify me immediately after your purchase with the correct address. I try to ship "ready to ship" purchases within 3 business days of purchase. This does not apply to custom made pieces which can take 4-6 weeks to complete.

I ship USPS Priority for all packages over 13 ounces. Anything 13 ounces or smaller goes first class. I'm happy to ship to most international locales and have shipped all over the world with no breakage to date.

Extra Insurance (above $50) is optional and up to the buyer's discretion. Insurance up to $50 is included in the price of shipping. I pack a piece until I can hardly feel the pottery when I squeeze the bubblewrapped piece. I overpack with peanuts until it is difficult to tape the box shut. This is not done to annoy the buyer with an explosion of peanuts at its opening :-D It is done so there will be no likelihood of the piece shifting during shipping.

INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMS
International purchases (outside of the US) may be subject to any custom duties, tariffs, or import taxes levied by their countries Customs at the time of delivery and are the responsibility of the buyer. The UK has especially expensive customs. the recipients are charged an additional £8 on top of duties. Here are some custom fees I found on Google though some may be outdated. It's best to check with your local Post Office:

UK: If your goods (excluding shipping cost) exceed £15, you'll pay an additional 20% VAT on the entire cost of your order (including shipping), plus an £8 "handling fee" to Royal Mail. If your goods (excluding shipping cost) exceed £135, you'll also have to pay an additional 12% "customs duty" on the entire cost of your order (including shipping).

Canada: Flat $5 handling fee for USPS shipments.

Germany: Anything under €22 (price + shipping) is free of customs duties and import taxes, packages between €22-150 you’ll pay sales tax on price + shipping (19% as of August 2014), and over €150 you’ll pay sales tax and customs.

The Netherlands: It's possible that anything over €22 (price & shipping) gets hit with sales tax (typically around 20% of the price including shipping). Anything over €150 will need to pay both sales taxes and customs.

Australia: Nothing to pay for import goods valued at up to AUD1,000 (~USD850).

Turkey: a friend told us there is a limit of €75 per shipment for customs. If the value of shipment exceeds that, you pay +20% of the total sum.

Sweden: 12% customs tax (of the total value of the order). 25% sales tax of the customs tax value.

Denmark: Any package from outside the European Union that costs less than 80 DKK for the items themselves will have no duties or taxes. Any package equal to or above 80 DKK, customs will add a fee of 128 DKK plus a sales tax of 25% on the entire amount. )

RETURNS & REFUNDS:
I'm happy to refund any item in its original condition if you are unhappy with it within a week or so of you receiving it. Please be advised I do not refund shipping costs, and you will be responsible for return shipping. Personalized pieces are non-returnable as they cannot be sold to anyone else. I may take a return on a custom piece if it can be resold. Otherwise a personalized, custom-made piece, unless it is drastically unlike the description is non-returnable.
