My first gift of a box of NYS dug clay was the start of it all. Once I had my hands in clay I was hooked.
My pottery expresses my love of the outdoors as well as my love of art and of creating and building things that people will enjoy and use. I love nature's colors, and nature's forms, and incorporate these into functional pottery that will be used and enjoyed every day.
For my traditional stoneware I select glazes that produce effects I observe in nature, such as the variegated earthy greens of a mossy Maine evergreen or spruce woods, the bright, intense blues of a summer sky dotted with dense, cottony clouds, or the snow covered deep sienna earth of the winter farmscape. Much of this visual inspiration comes from hiking in the Finger Lakes region of NY where I live or in other areas of the Northeast US. Patterns and colors that…
