(¸.·´ (¸.·`¤ Influences:

I got my name, "MantaWave" from mantarays and ocean waves -- two things I find very inspiring.

You may also notice from my work that I am very interested the the spiral -- especially the spiral as it exists in Nature. It is omnipresent, from the tiniest (dna) to the grandest (spiral galaxies) and this fascinates me.

Also high on my list of influences are other sea creatures (such as jellyfish and octopi), ancient maps, compass roses, fractals and crop circles/mazes as an art form.

I must also give credit to Music, for most of my work was conceived while listening to it. From such minimalist composers as Arvo Pärt to underground post punk and indie, I would be hard pressed to create anything without the Muse that is Song

(¸.·´ (¸.·`¤ How I got started:

After graduating from college with a degree in Geography, I traveled to Europe. During this trip I realized that all I ever really wanted to do was to make stuff. (a major over simplification, of course :)

(¸.·´ (¸.·`¤ My work:

Everything in this shop is handmade by me. Pieces are signed (unless the piece is reversible)

I am using porcelain, a very durable clay. With my glazes I strive to achieve surfaces that do not resemble a glazed clay -- surfaces like stone, wood, metal, bone, etc.

My jewelry is very lightweight, requires ZERO upkeep and you can wear it 24/7. Some of my are, in fact, guaranteed for life.

All pieces are fired to 1232'C (2250'F).

If you find something in my "sold" section, I might be able to recreate it for you as a custom piece. (I offer free personalization with any such piece -- how ever many characters as will fit that piece -- up to 40, usually)

For all of my policies and guarantees please visit this page: http://www.etsy.com/shop/MantaWave/policy

I hope you enjoy my images. I'm using a Canon SX110. (in my experience, there's really no need to get too elaborate with equipment. :)

We enrolled in VA GREEN POWER with Dominion Power, our electricity provider, on July 4th, 2010. Though I'm not exactly clear on how much of my kiln is now powered by renewable energy, every little bit helps, I think.

helpful hint:
Fellow artist looking for free, clean bubble wrap? hit up your local kayak shop. They might have heaps of the stuff that would otherwise just get thrown away.
