Marianna Halassy's Profile

About

My love of working with fibers began a long time ago, when my grandmother gave me my first ball of yarn and a crochet needle and taught me how to make beautiful doilies. Eventually the one ball of yarn was followed by many more and the crochet needle by knitting needles, weaving machines and felting tools and I became a textile artist working in my little art studio, for many years.

Then one day I had to put all of my yarn and needles aside and I had to take a different direction in life, but I did it with the comforting thought that one day, perhaps in my old age, I would return to working with fiber again.
…..well I’m not that old yet….but old enough to know that one of the ingredients to happiness is to do what we really love to do; and for me, fiber work happens to be one of those activities, therefore I am back and my studio is up and running…

I hope my pieces will bring as much joy to you as they do to me when I’m making them!

On a more personal note, I’m greatly concerned about our environment, all the animals that we share this planet with and about issues such as fair trade, work exploitation, about mass production, consumerism and the tremendous waste which is left behind as a result of all of this.

I live in the countryside, on 4 acres of land, a simple but meaningful life with 5 rescued parrots, one rescued dog and three cats, which were dumped on the street here.

I’m vegetarian, buy only organic food, support local farmers and small businesses, as well as Etsy sellers! I Believe in small sustainable communities, grass roots movements and hoping that our efforts eventually will bring love, light and peace to the world.
