About

"Hi Future Friends of Mine!"

Bio-
Marlene Kurland has painted her entire life - beach scenes and oil portraits her favorite - as she has gone from the boardroom to the classroom and back to the art room. She had a long career as the owner of a chain of cosmetic/skincare salons in upscale malls in the Maryland area, as well as a national makeup artist agency, when one day she decided she wanted to teach art to children in Baltimore City. Even with her BA in art and psychology, & a partial masters degree in marketing, she still needed more credentials to enter the system, but within six months she was in a school of her choice, where she taught for three years. Her young students would immediately impress their parents that they could spot a Van Gogh from a Picasso! Kurland always continued to paint and to do commissions. Today, she focuses only on painting, traveling nation-wide, to show her work at juried art shows. A New York City gallery exhibition is in the works for October 2017. Stay tuned for more details.

Working in her home studios, dividing her time between Maryland and Florida, Kurland, loves to create on large canvases, using broad brush strokes, as she paints the colors of human emotions and loving relationships. Her colors come from life; she paints them brightly and startlingly intense. Often, her subjects are inspired from photographs as she uses her oils to layer on spirit and depth, transforming a static image into a living portrait. Marlene Kurland gets into the soul of her subjects.

"A lifetime treasured custom oil painting, inspired by your favorite photo, is what I would love to create for you; a portrait of you, your children, your grandchildren, your home, your pet or perhaps a loved one who has passed away.....as well as all of your family celebrations. I will gather the essence of your loved ones, striving to meld their physical and spiritual characteristics; then produce my impression on canvas, usually in a very painterly style. I do not measure or use anything, except my eyes, brushes, fingers and paint to create your true original piece. I also love to paint scenes or people in person....always showing their connections/feelings for each other..... Basically, I see life as a painting.... each moment is framed into a beautiful oil painting piece in my head, capturing a moment in time that is universal for all to relate to, hoping that viewers can connect their own dreamy memories to my brush strokes. I love to paint every day and always have 7-10 pieces going on at once.....so much fun!

While my business interests & careers have changed through the years, my husband, son and all of our family members are the most precious parts of my life (& my most convenient models!), and painting them continues to bring me more joy & a constant indescribable pleasure. As you look at my paintings you will get to meet them and I would love to meet you and your family, too! Reading the feedback from my collectors, letting me know how they feel about their paintings is one of my top sources of happiness!!

Please take a look and see if an already created painting tugs on your heartstrings, or contact me and we will make arrangements for you to email one of your own favorite photos; one that really speaks to your emotions is what I would love to create for you. As I work on your piece, I will send you photos of my progress, step by step, so you see where I am going....usually 3-8 weeks until completion."

Love,
Marlene
