What? You make cat toys out of old socks?!!

It all started with a crazy book called Doris Dingle’s Crafty Cat Activity Book. Among other goofy cat activities were plans for simple knitted fish and mice toys. I tried a few but just never got anywhere as a left-handed knitter. Meanwhile I had been saving old holey wool socks, thinking that some day I could put them to use. Nobody seemed to darn socks any more, so in 1999, I began making darn!socks cat toys, and now I have tons of peoples’ old holey socks!

Reincarnating people’s old holey socks and wool sweaters may not be what I expected to do with my expensive 4-year degree in Environmental Studies. Nevertheless, my dreams of craftiness and domesticity have been fulfilled.

Reincarnating people’s old holey socks and wool sweaters may not be what I expected to do with my expensive 4-year degree in Environmental Studies. Nevertheless, my dreams of craftiness and domesticity have been fulfilled.

After nearly 10 summers as the “craft lady” at Lake Michigan’s Camp Miniwanca, I settled in Duluth on the shores of Lake Superior. I miss playing in the craft house with all the campers, but now couldn’t be happier sharing a home with my partner and two cats. She has the so-called “real job,” but still finds time to help me tag things during slow times at the green house.

On the other hand, Aven and Itty Bitty are my constant companions in my creative process. Aven as you can see enjoys writing the product descriptions, and likes supervising all aspects of darn!socks and Three Blind Mice creation. Itty Bitty on the other hand is great at looking cute and stealing things—from the smallest wool scrap to the biggest pair of slippers!

May all your feline friends be happy!
