Lets Talk Masks!

I enjoy taking the old and incorporating a new twist. From Steampunk, Shabby Chic, to Retro and all thats in between I can create something truly unique with part of history that becomes a piece of artwork for someone to enjoy wearing or in their home.

Each one of my handmade Masquerade Masks for decor and costumes is a labor of love. I enjoy watching each one of them come to life into something one-of-a-kind that I can be proud of. Inspired by Venetian Italy with a new age twist. Materials used on the Masks are: paint, vintage buttons, pins, jewelry, ribbons and fabrics. Mask Base: is the taught use of authentic Venetian recipe of paper mâché plaster.

I studied the art of Venetian mask making and the art of paper mâché. I use the Italian Venetian traditional recipe of masquerade mask making and made my own template base that I use with variations. They are a stunning piece on the wall or laying on a dresser or entry way table. Many of my customers say their masks become wonderful conversation pieces they display in their homes!

But Why Venetian Masks?:

I'm a huge history buff. I love learning about culture! However, the Venetian periods in the 1500-1700s were especially my favorite. These masks "would allow its wearer to act more freely in cases where he or she wanted to interact with other members of the society outside the bounds of identity and everyday convention. It was thus useful for a variety of purposes, some of them illicit or criminal, others just personal, such as romantic encounters." (wikipedia.org) The mystery of hiding your identity behind a mask and the secret thrill of walking the streets unknown is both exciting and fascinating me!

About Me:

I was born and raised in California and lived in Washington State for a few years during college. I grew up surrounded by extremely artistic individuals who inspired and helped create the mold which is me!

Living in California I spend most of my time on my creations, being with family, and playing with my sidekick - the 9 year old yorkie named Roxy who is currently curled up in a ball by my side.
