About

An artist based on the small Island of Anglesey off the coast of North Wales; I’m married to Tom my computer geek and have three children – two of which are still in the nest.

I studied art and fashion illustration at colleges in Wales and London, before returning home to Anglesey; this island seems to draw you back.

Whilst raising a family I worked part-time as tutor for a local college, ran creative art and dram workshops for children at weekends and only dabbled occasionally with my own art work. The family has now grown up and I’ve cut back my tutoring, working with a small but wonderful group of creative people who meet locally.

With more time to pursue my own creative ideals I find I now work more and more in 3D but, still in the area of the figures and fashion. With my love of textiles, illustration and craft I started a small business – “Messie Jessie”, taking its name from my eldest daughter. Each piece of work is hand crafted and truly original. I work in mixed media, favoring collage and altered art; being somewhat of a magpie my work frequently features found objects, recycled jewelery, beads and fabrics.

I love the sight of washing put out to dry, sheets and pillow cases billowing in the wind, it takes me back to being young. So, I made a series of collages around the theme of clothes on a washing line, which led to the making of miniature children’s dresses and eventually the more involved creations, which are my current collection of art dress assemblages.

I sell my art locally but, looking for another outlet came across Etsy. The whole online thing is a new adventure for me so, Tom helps me out with the geeky stuff. I’ve started a blog to accompany my efforts in creating my niche online. The blog features my work using photos not used on Etsy, posts about things and people that influence my art, new artists I find during my online wanderings and a glimpse into our lives and what we get up to. Oh and on occasion Tom gets to post the occasional quirky piece or geeky tip and includes comments from Tom on our journey into the online world.
