Artist Biography
I was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and began my art career in my early 30’s, after trying many different jobs and careers in the 70’s and early 80’s, including drafting, architecture and 4 years in the United States Air Force from 1973 to 1977. I completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts at Louisiana Tech University in 1985 and a Masters of Art in Education degree from the College of Santa Fe in 2005. I worked for many years as an illustrator and graphic designer while working nights and weekends to develop a personal style of painting.

I moved to New Mexico in the mid 90’s to expand my artistic options and worked for a local art company in Albuquerque. I worked with some very talented individuals during that period and developed some long term friendships from the art experiences we shared. We worked on many commercial art projects, creating murals, 3 dimensional art, graphics, faux finishes, signage, carpentry and other artwork for commercial clients nationwide, in the restaurant and casino industries, including an interesting 2 year project for the Imus Ranch for Kids with Cancer near Ribera, New Mexico.
I began my art education career teaching basic drawing, computer graphics and commercial illustration part-time for a private commercial art college in the late 90’s. This started a never imagined talent for teaching what I had learned over the years and passing that knowledge along to young people to expand their artistic experiences. In 2002 I started teaching all levels of high school Visual Art, 9th grade through 12th, primarily the fundamentals of art, drawing, painting, ceramics, AP Studio Art portfolio and fine art matting and framing for a local public school system. With the Masters and with some on-the-job training and wonderful professors, I learned how to teach, write curriculum and develop an art program for the public schools.
I am now working full-time on my artwork, trying to develop the ideas for my different series, invent new concepts and continue expanding my painting and drawing skills. I continue to paint in my home studio and drawing from life in weekly drawing and painting workshops. I am starting a new adventure in my art career by putting my work in art shows and art galleries, both locally and in other regions of the country.
