About

My name is Karen Barone and I am originally from a small town called Little Falls in North Jersey. I moved to Florida in 1994 and have been married for 28 years. I am currently a Accounts Receivable Manager for a Goodyear tire distributor. I have 6 grandchildren from the ages of 3 to 17. My son Anthony lives in Pennsylvania and my daughter Melissa lives in Oregon.

As a child, I would often use shoeboxes to make rooms and imagine myself living in those rooms. I would use felt to make curtains over the windows, use paper towels as rugs or to cover a bed. I don’t have any of those boxes any more and never gave miniatures a thought as I grew into my teens.

It wasn’t until after I was married at the young age of 22, that I received a dollhouse that would forever change my life. For over 5 years, I worked on this dollhouse not knowing anything about miniatures except what I would read in magazines. It was until I was at a casino in Atlantic City, that I discovered my first miniature show and I was hooked in a big way.

I joined the National Association of Miniature Enthusiast (NAME) and found other members living near me. So, we all got together and formed a club. What fun it was to play miniatures with others just like me. Friends to bounce ideas off, to laugh when we did something stupid and it was too late to change it, honest opinions of our work and we all grew and learned together. I wasn’t afraid to try something new, took every class I could and still do to learn a new technique, make friends from all over the country.

As the years progressed, I became very involved in the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts (NAME). I was elected to serve on the Board of Trustees and today I serve as the Immediate Past President of NAME with approximately 5000 members nationwide as well as internationally. It is a joy to be among my “miniature” family. To sit & talk to plan a project or event, show & tell of our newest creation or something we just had to buy. AsPast President of NAME, it was my role to lead our Organization into the future. NAME is a nonprofit and we teach miniatures not just to our members, but also to the youth of our community, demonstrations at shows, and classes for everyone.

What I have found, it that you don’t have to be a miniaturist to enjoy miniatures. I enjoy making miniatures for my family or friends as it pertains to their interest.
