Marie Bahr-Bretz is a self-taught painter, sculptor, and poet who was born and raised along the shores of Lake Erie in Erie Pennsylvania. Marie has always been inspired outwardly by the beauty of nature around her (particularly the breathtaking Lake Erie sunsets), as well as inwardly by a family rich in creative expression (her mother and aunt are both painters, her uncle a musician). But perhaps her greatest inspiration has been another family member, renowned Poet/Artist and founding member of the “Beat” generation, Kenneth Patchen.
It is with Patchen that Marie shares many common beliefs, including her anti-establishment views, anti-corporate oppression, and pro-pacificism. Like Patchen, she is strongly against repression, war, poverty, and human suffering,
and is fiercely loyal to the arts…
